TYLER, TX (KLTV) - TYLER, TX (KLTV) - They are the East Texas volunteers who give their time and voice to a group of victims who often have no one to count on.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The East Texas Crisis Center honored four individuals and two groups who have dedicated themselves to stopping domestic violence in the past year.
Irene Howard, Vicky Wade, Carrie Mills, Sarah Halle plus Troup Middle School and UT Tyler were recognized for their efforts.
"To be able to tell them...that's what we're trying to do here today," said Becky Henderson, with the East Texas Crisis Center.
DPS reported more than 200,000 documented cases of domestic violence for 2009, estimating around 75% of people have been exposed to a form of violence.
