NACOGDOCHES, TX  - Nacogdoches Police have arrested Nathan Welsh, 22,  listed as homeless, in connection with the stabbing death of Thomas Grimes, 49, Monday night.

NPD Detectives arrested Welsh without incident on Park Street at Crisp Road shortly before 9:30 Wednesday morning.

Milton Brown, 18, was arrested yesterday and charged with murder in connection with the same incident.  Brown was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Dorothy Tigner-Thompson Wednesday morning.  His bond is set at $500,000.  Brown is listed as homeless.  His last known address was in Winnsboro, Louisiana.

A police arrest affidavit states that a fight broke out between Welsh and Grimes, that Brown participated, which led to Welsh stabbing Brown.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the two suspects and the victim were acquainted with each other. All three were inside the victim's apartment at 3220 North Street Monday evening when a disturbance arose and Grimes was fatally stabbed.

Investigators said Grimes was found in a pool of his own blood just after 11 p.m.  He later died at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Godtel Director Royce Oliver said both Welsh and Grimes had previously lived at Godtel.  He said he saw Grimes on the day he was killed and said Welsh had lunch at Godtel on the day of the murder.

Oliver said he Welsh was an orderly resident and he was surprised to hear that he was a murder suspect.  Welsh is believed to be from Nebraska.

Police spent the day Tuesday canvassing the neighborhood around Austin Place on North Street.

Brown remains in the Nacogdoches County Jail charged with murder.  Welsh's arraignment on murder charges is pending.

The investigation is continuing, and updates will be given as new information becomes available.
