TYLER, TX (KLTV)- They're planning now to become the lady leaders of tomorrow. Hundreds of Smith County sixth grade girls attended a Girl Power Summit Saturday to promote self-esteem, healthy living and leadership.

More than 300 hundred screaming, sixth grade girls are on a mission to gain some confidence.

"I'm learning about self-esteem," said Mya Santschi, sixth grader. "It's a great opportunity to just feel good about yourself and not be embarrassed about anything."

There was no sign of embarrassment on a concrete walkway turned dance floor. Southern Belle dancers inspired the girls to get healthy while having fun.

"I feel like I'm about to explode!" said an excited Monica Leal, sixth grader.

"When you're in your skin, you shouldn't feel bad about it," said Cheyenne Crowder, sixth grader. "You should just love it."

The girls also learned about leadership and taking initiative when it comes to their health.

"It just helps you build up your self-esteem," said Crowder. "It shouldn't drop, it should just keep going up higher."

"No matter how you look or what people think about you, you should think about yourself as just a wonderful thing that God has created," said Santschi.

When it comes to self-esteem, these girls say their confidence has no boundaries.

The event wasn't without a special guest visitor to East Texas. Wife of comedian Chris Rock, Malaak Compton-Rock, also shared her secrets of success with the girls.
