TYLER, TX (KLTV)-  Belly dancers stole the spotlight at the Multicultural Arts Festival in downtown Tyler Saturday.

It's the festival's first year to hold an event like this in honor of National Arts and Humanity month, which is a coast-to-coast celebration of culture.

Several performers ranging from all ages danced for a small crowd. Children also enjoyed face painting.

The festival's spokesperson, Danny Waffer, says he hopes to make this an annual event.

"Our goal is to bring the cultural diversity here in Tyler her to the square and showcase it and give everyone an opportunity to show it," said Waffer. "That's really why we're here. It's a day of festivities."

The day focused not only on learning about others, but helping as well. Festival goers signed crutches to be shipped to Haiti earthquake victims.
