TYLER, TX (KLTV) - TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Breast cancer is the number two leading cause of death for women. Survivors say that alarming statistic should encourage women of all ages to get mammograms.
Friday, it was a sea of pink and white at the ETMC Pink Ribbon Getaway. Women were able to ask a panel of doctors questions about breast cancer treatment.
Tyler firefighters also sold t-shirts in hopes of donating $20,000 for breast cancer research and awareness.
"Last year we started this movement across the state, and this year now we're doing it nationwide, and it's been very successful, and we enjoy getting out in the community and talking to folks," said Steve Countryman, a Tyler firefighter.
Next Tuesday, a pink fire truck will make an appearance in downtown Tyler on the square from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Firefighters encourage survivors to sign the truck.
