The rains buried parts of Tyler and Smith County under a steady flow of water this afternoon. A creek near Trinity Mother Frances Health System grew into a raging river. Rain also flooded streets in the Azalea District, causing at least one road to be barricaded and closed for several hours. Trees were overturned.
In south Tyler, people reported drainage ditches turning into pretty good sized streams. And for some East Texans, the rapid rainfall brought the water right into their homes.
Some parts of East Texas received 1 to 2 inches of rain in less than one hour this afternoon.
