A loose animal in the road led to a huge explosion on I-20 Saturday morning.
According to DPS, an eastbound 18-wheeler struck a cow in the road at 4:20, four miles west of Lindale. The 18-wheeler swerved through the median, striking an oncoming flatbed truck head on.
Witnesses said both trucks exploded in a giant fireball, sending flames as high as the treetops. Traffic was backed up and diverted for more than six hours.
Both vehicles and their drivers were burned beyond recognition. The bodies of the two drivers have been taken to Dallas for positive identification, which will have to be done by dental records.
