Despite the rain, more than a hundred volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help out charities in Smith County.
It was the United Way Day of Caring. Channel 7's Morgan Palmer and Gillian Sheridan spent part of Friday painting a room at the Association of Retarded Citizens (ARC) in Tyler. Some other volunteers got out in the rain to put up a fence. Despite the Day of Caring coming just once a year, the volunteers know they do make a difference.
"It makes me feel good. We all need to help out in the community, through the United Way. It's representing the whole community. And, everyone needs to do what they can to help out," says volunteer Mike Johnson.
The ARC of Tyler-Smith County was one of many job sites in this Day of Caring. Individuals and many businesses donated materials and labor to help the community.
