LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas man is recovering Friday after being shot in the head. It happened Thursday night just before 6 p.m. at the Sunset Inn Motel. That is on Highway 80 near Gilmer Road in Longview.
Police say it all started with a fight.
"[The] two men at the location...knew each other," said Kevin Brownlee, with Longview Police. "They were both staying there at the Sunset Inn. What they were fighting about we're not sure."
As tensions grew, investigators say Janet Embry, 44, pulled a gun and shot Lucien Alexander, point blank, in the head.
Then, she and the other man took off, but Alexander's brother followed and police were not far behind.
"The female driver was located on Highway 31 near Interstate 20 by the brother of the shooting victim," said Brownlee.
A traffic stop was initiated and Embry then had an apparent seizure when apprehended.
"They did have her taken to Good Shepherd Medical Center to get checked out before they took her to the Gregg County Jail," said Brownlee.
Drug paraphernalia was found in the car along with the apparent weapon: a handgun.
Police say it is nothing short of a miracle that Alexander is still alive.
"They transported him to Good Shepherd Medical Center where he had non-life threatening injuries," said Brownlee.
Embry is still in the Gregg County Jail. She is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
