UPDATE: Man not guilty in tot's killing

RUSK, TX (KLTV) -

RUSK, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas jury has found that the man charged with beating his girlfriend's baby to death is not guilty.

Jamie Blackshire, 28, was accused of capital murder in the 2003 killing of the 18-month-old child.

During the trial, police testified that when they questioned Blackshire, he told them he did not know why anyone would want to hurt a child.

Our reporter in the courtroom says there were loud cheers when the verdict came down to the admonishment of the judge.
