TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler Police say two Robert E. Lee High School students were thrown from an ATV, around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Officer Don Martin with the Tyler Police Department says the girls were hanging out with a group of students in the French Quarter shopping center - near the Dairy Queen on South Broadway.

A 16-year-old driver drove up in a pick-up truck, towing the ATV. The ATV was strapped to the trailer. Martin says the young girls climbed on top of the ATV and asked for a ride, and the young man began towing them around the parking lot. Martin says the 16-year-old driver took a turn too sharply, breaking the strap that was holding down the ATV. The ATV and the two girls were tossed to the ground.

One girl received some minor scrapes and bruises. The other girl was taken to a local hospital.
