JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - From the beginning of the Vietnam War until its end, there was always at least one Walker brother fighting in Vietnam.
Although Dale Walker was not the first of the five Walker brothers to go to Vietnam, he was there the longest, serving three tours of duty and earning nine medals, including two Purple Hearts and the coveted Silver Star.
Dale's older brother, James, was also wounded in Vietnam and received a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.
Brothers Ken, Larry, and Ronnie all served in Vietnam as well. With over 47,000 Americans killed in Vietnam, the Walkers know that their survival was nothing less than a miracle.
In spite of dozens of medals for their sacrifice and valor, the five Walker brothers never expected nor received an official welcome home. The City of Jacksonville will remedy that on Saturday, September 18th with their "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans," in honor of the Walkers and all who served in Vietnam. The parade kicking off the days festivities, begins at 10 a.m.
