CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) -Charleston County sheriff's deputies are looking for  Michael Lee Collins.

Collins is wanted on a charge of forgery.

"Apparently Mr. Collins has seen fit to create some checks on behalf of masquerading as a business, and he's cashing these payroll checks which are entirely fraudulent," said Charleston County Sheriff's Deputy Reggie Sharpe.

"They look pretty much like payroll checks from a local labor service company, and he's cashing these checks," said Sharpe. "He has a template or created a template that looks like it was from these people."

Authorities say Collins was out on bond for traffic charges when he allegedly made the forged checks. Investigators didn't find out about it until after he was released from jail.

Collins has a rap sheet that shows a history of theft offenses and also possession of a shotgun or machine gun.

Cops are concentrating on stopping Collins from creating any more phony checks.

"Unless you have one of those check verification systems, you may not realize it at the time that you're getting a bogus check until your bank tries to process it," said Sharpe.

Collins stands 6'1" and weighs about 220 lbs.

His last known address was on Farm Branch Lane in Summerville.

If you have any information, call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111. You can remain anonymous and may earn a cash reward.
