HENDERSON, TX (KLTV) - Police in Henderson say employees of a small business may have embezzled more than $20,000 from the owner and there may be more fraud involved.

Lieutenant Craig Sweeney with the Henderson Police Department says they are investigating a claim that at least one employee forged the business owner's signature to get a credit card and allegedly embezzled money from the owner's account at the Bank of America in Henderson.

Sweeney says they have a lot of leg work to do, but he says the owner took a big hit if they charged more than $20,000.

"One of two possible ways was withdrawing money from his account or using an open credit card that they had for their own personal gain and also attempting or having opened one or more other credit card accounts in his name," said Sweeney.

officials say this serves as an important reminder to business owners to do audits and keep up with books.
