Man shot to death in Cherokee County identified

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Released by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Department:

CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX - On Friday August 27, 2010 at approximately 6:50 pm the Cherokee County Sheriffs Department received a 911 call of a subject who had been found laying in the driveway of a residence located at 111 Jackie Street in the ShadyBrook subdivision on Lake Palestine.

Upon officers arrival to the scene they found a white male, who was later identified as William Earl Baker (D.O.B. 2-12-58), deceased with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the torso.

The Cherokee County Sheriffs Department's Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was called to the scene to begin processing the scene, collecting evidence, and interviewing those in the community. Neighbors, and others that were in the area that evening, reported to have heard gunshots sometime between 5:00 and 5:30pm.

Justice of the Peace Pct. #4 Vera Foreman pronounced Baker deceased at the scene and ordered that his body be transported to Southwest Forensics in Dallas Texas for autopsy.

The Cherokee County Sheriffs Department is not naming a suspect at this time but is continuing to follow up on information provided by neighbors as well as other sources both in and out of the ShadyBrook community.
