APPLEBY, TX (KTRE) - Law enforcement personnel say two women and a man are dead in a double homicide-suicide shooting Friday afternoon in the Appleby area.

Sheriff Thomas Kerss said the body of the shooting suspect, 73-year-old Preston Skelton, had been located around 3:20 p.m.

Kerss said the initial investigation showed the women, 59-year-old Helen Meeler, and 58-year-old Connie Moses, had been in an ongoing dispute over the property line, located on County Road 262, and it apparently flared up into the deaths today.

Authorities had been looking for Skelton for more than two hours and were stopping traffic on Appleby Sand Road in Nacogdoches County. Kerss said Skelton went into a wooded area behind his residence after he shot the women, and shot himself.

The shooting occurred around 12:45 p.m. The sheriff's office notified NISD of the incident and they held the buses, as all of Appleby Sand Road was closed.
