Burglary, shots fired, screwdriver stabbing, 1 arrested

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX - On Thursday August 26th, 2010 at approximately 21:30 p.m. the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a shooting on VZCR #2807 in Mabank.

Upon arrival, deputies determined that two (2) males had been involved in an altercation. The preliminary investigation revealed that one of the subjects involved had been reported as a suspect in a burglary of a habitation earlier in the evening, in which firearms were stolen. The suspect that had been involved in the burglary came over and confronted the reporting party and pulled a weapon on him. The reporting party pulled a firearm and fired one shot in the ground away from the suspect. The suspect then charged the reporting party and pulled a screwdriver and stabbed the reporting party in the back several times.

The suspect identified as Gary Wayne Pritchett, Jr. of Mabank was arrested by Sheriff's Deputies. Pritchett was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon Retaliation Against Witness/Informant/or Person Who Reported the Occurrence of a Crime. Pritchett is being held at the Van Zandt County Justice Center awaiting arraignment by a Justice of the Peace.
