TYLER, TX (KLTV) - TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County D.A.'s Office has found a creative way to help the City of Tyler pay the high cost of investigating murder cases. Basically, have other criminals pay for it.
Thursday, District Attorney Matt Bingham handed over this check for $6,051.91.
The money came from forfeitures, money and items taken from criminals.
"It's a great way to take money from the criminals and then reutilize it in the investigation of criminal cases and help get justice for victims in these cases," said Bingham.
This money will cover the cost of over-time for 12 officers to work six days on a current capital murder case.
