LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Tax free weekend came a little later than in past years, and for some it presented a problem.

Kim Philpot, shopping for her kids says," I think it's a little hectic because they're out of things right now. We waited until the last minute to take advantage of Tax-free and yet the selection isn't always there when you wait late."

East Texas folks hit the ground running and were shopping by 9 AM.

Carlas Douglas said he did it to, "To beat the crowd and to beat the heat." Ed Silver added, "Last year it was a little hectic so we thought we'd get out a little earlier this year and we beat the crowds."

The eight dollars saved for every hundred spent may not seem like much, but for dedicated shoppers it was plenty. "That's just a bonus for us that's just great. It just means we'll spend more money more than likely," said Charles Anderson, shopping for his daughter.

"Every little bit helps when you have to buy for two. Just waited kind of late this year to do it…so here we are," said Kim.

But not everyone was shopping for school. Ed played it smart. "We're up here doing a little Christmas shopping trying to save a little money on Tax-free weekend," he said.

Seems like Christmas is a long way off, but shoppers say it will be here nearly as quickly as summer break ended.
