56 year old George Trunk of Missouri is alive today, thanks to a bone marrow donation of a Houston man.
Trunk has aplastic anemia, a disease that slowly drains bone marrow and life from its victims.
In Longview Friday, he met the Houston man who made the donation to save his life. Trunk got his lifesaving donation in December 2001, literally saving him at the last moment.
Houston attorney Mike Leppala became a donor through an odd event. He was helping a college friend get a date during a tissue typing drive years ago.
The meeting was set up by the Longview "Because I Care" group to kick-off a golf tournament to raise money for bone donor tissue typing.
