TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Hundreds of hungry families got a little boost Friday, thanks to the East Texas Food Bank.

All day long, families loaded up boxes of food to take home in Tyler Friday. The Food Bank will host the same event in Longview next week.

Called, the Summer Family Nutrition Program, families must qualify by having one child under 18 and meeting a certain income level.

Families are given one box of food a month for four months - something each one is extremely thankful for.

"I think it's a good idea myself," said Wayne Wallace, picking up food. "Help people that ain't got nothing you know...fill my stomach."

"It's been a very long and hot summer and there's a lot of folks still out of work and this is an opportunity for us to get more food out to people who need it," said Dennis Cullinane, with East Texas Food Bank.

Next week's event in Longview will be at the Maude Cobb Activity Center.
