Fifth annual Tyler Football Classic set for August 26-28

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Released by the Azalea Orthopedics and Texas Spine and Joint Hospital:

TYLER, TX - With stadium and field upgrades completed, Bishop T.K. Gorman Regional Catholic School is set to host the Azalea Orthopedics & TSJH Tyler Football Classic August 26-28, 2010.  Six area high schools will compete in the Classic, which kicks off the 2010-2011 football season for participating teams.

The Classic, which is in its fifth year, is rotationally hosted by the Tyler area private schools.

Bishop Gorman Regional Catholic School, All Saints Episcopal School and Grace Community School collaboratively organized the Classic, with Carrollton Christian Academy, Winona High School, and Winnsboro High School also participating.

James Harris, M.D., Azalea Orthopedics sports medicine surgeon, says  the Classic is quickly becoming an East Texas tradition, "It is an honor to work with the schools of East Texas to highlight this upcoming year's talent with our joint effort. We look forward to the shared future vision of the Classic for many years to come."

"This is very exciting for the private schools in Tyler -- Gorman, All Saints and Grace Community," said Rick Palmer, Athletic Director for Gorman.  "The private school tournament was collaboratively established in 2006, and Gorman is proud to host the event for the next two years at McCallum Stadium."

"We invite everyone to come out and watch some great football and see the new field and other stadium upgrades," Palmer continued.  "The pride and tradition of Tyler's oldest private school football venue will create a wonderful atmosphere to kick off the season for these schools."

Officials said the Classic provides an opportunity for the public to support area private, faith-based as well as public school football programs.

Tickets for the event are $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12 and can be purchased at the gate at game time.  No district passes can be used.

5th Annual Tyler Football Classic Game Schedule:

  • August 27 - 7:30 p.m. – Bishop T.K. Gorman Regional Catholic School vs Winona High School

Azalea Orthopedics and Texas Spine and Joint Hospital would like to invite the media to a luncheon on  Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. on the Gorman Campus.   All three Tyler Private School football coaches will be in attendance to discuss the Classic and the upcoming season.
