$93,000 donated to Mercy Ships to help Haiti recover

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - They are the helping hands who serve disaster areas long after they quit making headlines and Thursday a serious donation strengthens their efforts.

Mercy Ships was the proud recipient of a large check written to the sum of $93,000.

The Million Dollar Round Table Foundation gave the generous donation to aid Mercy Ships ongoing aid to earthquake ravaged Haiti.

"The Million Dollar Round Table will actually be supporting our teams going into Haiti and working with our partnership so we will be building clinics, and we will be providing life changing surgeries," said Sam Smith, Mercy Ships CEO.

"We knew that they would be on the ground and would assess the situation accurately and then be able to put the help where it was most needed and also they are going to work on an ongoing basis down there so it wasn't a go in there get it done and leave," explained Sally Munford, with the Million Dollar Round Table.

The donation will go straight to funding the 1,400 volunteers made of doctors, carpenters, and others looking to help Haitians recover.
