GLADEWATER, TX (KLTV) - The Gladewater Bears hope to build off a playoff season from a year ago. If they do make the playoffs this year, the Bears will earn it. Gladewater must face state champs Gilmer and Carthage, state semifinalist Pittsburg and former 4A school Henderson. The Bears are the underdogs. They don't mind being under the radar.
"We're excited because everybody is expecting us to be the underdog and we're ready to prove ourselves and ready to surprise everybody in district," said Gladewater Tight End Ajay Mattu.
"It will be a challenge every week," said Gladewater Linebacker Jamarick Armstrong. "But we're ready. We're all men out here so we're ready to step up and play ball with them. Any one of them, we ready."
The team has a new swagger with new head coach Jerrod Baugh. Baugh has been the offensive coordinator at Longview, leading a high powered offense to the state championship game last season.
