NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Residents in a small community in southern Rusk County say burglars are stalking them. Investigators say nearly 40 homes have been burglarized recently.
Doug Dunn is trying to protect his 90-year-old mother from burglars. Her home has been broken into three times.
"The last time they came in they took an ax they found over here in the back area here and broke this door in," said Doug Dunn.
An image that has left his mother, Mary, terrified.
"I was just scared. I was nervous and scared," said Mary.
She remembers walking up to her home and first noticing the gate was open... Then the back door.
"First I thought I must not have locked this door, but when I got inside everything was pulled out of the drawers and thrown in the floor and I knew then somebody had just ransacked my house," said Mary.
Doug has taken extra precautions to protect his mother. He installed a game camera in a tree; however, within days the burglars stole that too.
About 40 homes here in the Brachfield community have been broken into. People that live here say these burglars have terrorized their small community.
Bea Wallace says she's even surprised burglars when she came home earlier than expected. She and other victims feel these burglars know their routine.
"They're watching us. They're watching our every move," said Wallace.
Luckily, no one's been at home during the burglaries. While authorities say they're stepping up patrol, neighbors say they are too.
Neighbors say their only description of the burglars is that of a white Ford Taurus.
They're urging neighbors to keep a close watch of anything that seems suspicious.
