LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - They rush in to dangerous situations to save East Texans, and now, they will be able to do it a little safer.
The Longview Fire Department received funds to help purchase a thermal imager. The device will help firefighters see through the smoke and flames, to tell if any people are trapped in fires.
"This allows them to expedite primarily a search and rescue effort, to pull a downed victim out and go right to them using this camera to scan and find their location, to get to them out of the environment as quickly as possible," said J.P. Steelman, the interim chief of LFD.
The imagers will be provided to all eight fire stations in Longview.
The donations were made possible by the Longview South Rotary Club.
