Two-a-Day Tour: Henderson Lions

By Coleman Swierc

HENDERSON, TEXAS (KLTV) - The time is now in Henderson.

After mediocre years in 4A, the Lions find themselves in class 3A, where they are considered by many, to be a force.

"We are not looking at it like we are the bigger school, really it is just the classification we should have been in the last two years," said head coach Dickey Meeks, "And the new district, wont make it any easier."

Henderson joins Gilmer, Carthage, Pittsburg, Spring Hill and Gladewater, in one of the toughest 3A districts in the state.

But still, confidence runs high.

"It is exciting to know that people actually think of us at level and we know that we have a tough district," said safety Trey Vallier, "But we look forward to the competition, and expect a good year."

Henderson was on the brink of a playoff appearance in 4A, but could not make it happen.

Now as favorites in 3A, the target is on their backs.

"It is just the fact that we dropped down, and they say that we are in a tough division, but we have always prepared for the challenges," said safety Jacoby Hodgem, "And now we look forward to playing the best, and being the best."

Henderson will open the 2010 campaign hosting Mt. Pleasant on August 27th at 7:30.
