SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An east Texas mother and her three little girls, narrowly escaped a late morning house fire. It started just after 11 at a home off F.M. 16 just a few miles west of Winona.
Firefighters from 5 different crews were still battling the blaze when KLTV 7 crews arrived. The home was a total loss. The homeowner tells us she noticed smoke and fire coming from the water heater. She got her three young kids out just moments before the entire house went up in flames.
"We always encourage everyone to just get out and call the fire department," said Assistant Smith County Fire Marshal Jay Brooks. "At this point, it's not worth your life. Property can be replaced, lives can't and she did the right thing, she had three small children and she got 'em out."
The exact cause of the fire is still being investigated. Fortunately, no one was injured.
