Youth Steel Band drumming up support, interest

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It was easy to mistake downtown Tyler for some place a little more tropical Friday afternoon.

The Youth Steel Band Foundation was performing on the square Friday, trying to drum up support and interest. The non-profit foundation is new to Tyler from the Dallas area, and the director says it is perfect for kids looking for a little direction.

"They get a sense of community, and self-esteem, to build self discipline, self-accomplishment, they get a lot of positives from that standpoint, but because it's music, they're just having fun," said Tim McCormick, with the Youth Steel Band Foundation.

the band is looking to fill two 10 to 20 member bands this fall. If you're interested in getting your child involved, just visit
