GILMER, TX (KLTV) - The Gilmer Buckeyes are defending state champs. But Head Coach Jeff Traylor says they don't look like one.
"We're not that impressive when we get off the bus," said Traylor. "We're not as big as we've been in the past."
The Buckeyes have lost a ton of state championship talent. Traylor has to replace 31 seniors, 13 of which were three year starters. Only three starters return from 2009. Despite the heavy losses, there are no excuses in Gilmer. The Buckeyes expect to win.
"These kids, that's all they've grown up doing," said Traylor. "That's all they know how to do."
With a tough district schedule ahead, making the playoffs will take hard work. But the Buckeyes are still eyeing a repeat performance from 2009.
"I'm sure every senior wants his year to end with a ring," said senior Xavier Easley. "So we come out here everyday and prepare and try to make a repeat."
