SAN ANTONIO, TX (KLTV) - Cheers this year, Tony Romo has quieted the boos from training camps past. Fans have come to realize, like the Cowboys, Romo gives the team it's best chance to reach the Super Bowl.
"We're as good as he takes us," said Tight End Jason Witten. "He (Romo) knows that and I think he's up for that challenge."
"I'd like to think I've gotten better," said Romo. "It excites to me to know that I'm doing certain things with a level of improvement and that's exciting."
Romo has the stats and the smile. The quarterback is a star.
Is he elite? Ask any teammate or coach, the answer is the same.
"I think Tony has matured,"said Head Coach Wade Phillips. "He took the reigns last year and I think he's an elite quarterback."
"I really do think he's there," said Witten. "He's been there a while. He's a top notch quarterback. I think he really embraces his role and understands what the expectations are of him."
Romo expects more before he can consider himself elite.
"The only way to be included in any talk of anything is to go out and win championships," said Romo. "Step one is to go out and get better today and improve and the only way I know how to do it is to keep working hard and get better."
If Romo gets any better, the Cowboys may be Super Bowl bound.
