LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- For East Texas show dog owners, it's the Super Bowl and the World Series all rolled into one, and its happening this weekend in Longview. Its the Longview kennel club's 2010 A-K-C licensed all breed dog show. Big breeds and small breeds, all breeds are vieing for best in show and obedience in what owners say is good show experience for them, and the dogs.
"We have people who've never shown their dog before , we also have people who have been showing their dogs off and on for over 30 years, you have the opportunity to gain titles move on , add more points to your score," says Don Etheridge of the Tyler obedience club.
Competitor Scott Summer of Houston has won twice at the famous Westminster show.
"Its a very prestigious thing to win everyone wants to win that, that's your goal, just get the best dog you can get and pray a whole lot," Summer jokingly says.
In show every line, every hair is examined for breed perfection.
"You just start out with a good dog a sound dog and a lot of the local kennel clubs have handling classes you can go to as well as obedience classes," says Louisiana dog owner Pam Davis.
Owners spend thousands on grooming equipment , and pampering their stars of the show.
"Dog shows, its definitely a passion for people, and the dogs love the attention, they're spoiled dogs," Summer says.
