TYLER, TX (KLTV) - For 18 years, Mr. B's restaurant in Tyler has kept downtown from getting hungry during lunchtime. But, slow sales due to new competition has forced the owner to permanently close its doors.
Her customers hate to see her go.
Louise Blackburn has seen a lot of traffic out her front window. Not much of it is for her place anymore.
"I'm opening a larger place in Winnfield, Texas," she said.
"I come in here for my coffee and my cokes…and Mrs. B is a fine person and I hate to see her leave," said longtime customer, Ken Whitworth.
"I have to try to re-coop some of my losses here from the last year," explained Mrs. B.
"My daughter says it's the best chicken salad she's ever eaten," said Whitworth.
"It's kind of sad that another small business is closing," said Laura Rackley.
"These other places that have moved in has cut into her business, bless her heart, she needs to go back home," Whitworth stated.
"It's also my birthday," said Mrs. B.
Some tried to give her a birthday present.
"No, no, no, no," said Mrs. B, to an offer of extra money.
"It's a sad day in Tyler," said Whitworth. "We're really going to miss her."
Orders being place and cash registers are all sounds you soon won't hear behind the window any longer. Sales had dropped from $400 a day to less than $100.
Mr. B's will be open through July 30th.
