Two men steal purse from man dressed in drag

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are searching for two men who allegedly held up a third man dressed in drag early Monday morning.

According to a North Charleston police report, the victim was walking down North Atlantic Avenue headed to a friend's house when two black men in a burgundy Grand Marquis stopped the victim and asked him to approach the vehicle.

The victim told the suspects he was a transvestite. One suspect demanded the victim's purse and he started to run, but the driver of the vehicle jumped out of the car and chased to victim down. The suspect pulled out a hand gun, directed the victim back to the car and demanded his purse again, the report stated.

The victim was able to grab his wallet and money out of the purse before the two suspects drove away. The victim told police the suspects headed in the direction of Rivers Avenue.

He described one suspect as being 5' 11" tall, with medium build, short hair, a thin beard and wearing a tan t-shirt. The second suspect was 5' 8" tall, skinny and wearing a white shirt and hat.

The two suspects made off with the purse, valued at $50, and about $40 in miscellaneous make-up supplies.

Officers searched the area for the car but were not successful in locating it. Burglary advisories were handed out in the neighborhood.
