TYLER, TEXAS (KLTV) - East Texas knows winning.
Now, one East Texas fighter, wants to bring another title back home.
"To bring a title back to Tyler. Texas, not only would that be big for me, but for all of us here, it would be a huge story."
Those are the words of David McMurray, who will travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma next week, for shot at the XFL 170 pound amatuer title.
XFL, or Extreme Fight League, is a version of mixed martial arts (MMA), and is the goal of fighters like McMurray.
"I have had eight fights, I have won 5 of them and lost 3 of them, and I am looking to make that next move to the professional level," said McMurray, "There are definitley some butterflies, but the first time you get hit or land that first punch the training takes over."
McMurray hopes a win, and a future in professional MMA, will help others realize the sports potential.
"There are so many guys that not only train here in Tyler with me, but also in Longview," said McMurray, "So for us to be represented like this, and have a chance to get noticed, is huge."
