Kittens tied together, used as bait

LAKE WORTH, FL (WFLX) - A 4-week-old dark brown kitten and his white and silver-haired litter mate are downright tired after struggling to stay alive.

"They found them all bound up and they were near death," said Inga Hanley of Adopt A Cat Foundation.

A couple found the kittens on a boat in a Lake Worth storage yard Sunday. The kittens were tied together with fishing line, their little front paws so tightly wound, they are now three times the size they are supposed to be.

"We still don't know if their front leg will be amputated," Hanley commented. "Time will tell."

Hanley is giving the kittens antibiotics and vitamins in hopes that they will recuperate enough to fight off the infection on their paws.

She says kittens used as fish bait is nothing new and it gets worse.

"They use them for gator bait, too. There are a lot of things people do with little kittens," Hanley said. "That's why they always tell you, 'Don't advertise free kittens in the paper because a lot of horrible things happen to them.

"It shocks me every time, because you think people couldn't do such a thing," she added. "But it doesn't surprise me."
