SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - Tyler police have identified the man accused of robbing a bank on Wednesday afternoon.
Eddie Ray Myers, 61, of Tyler is the man police believe was caught by security cameras at the BBVA Compass Bank. He made off with an undisclosed amount of money after handing the teller a note saying he had a gun say authorities.
Authorities have confirmed that Eddie Ray Myers is a convicted bank robber.
Friday afternoon, we visited the house where Myers was living on Smith County Road 461 near I-20. While we were there, his ex-wife came out and spoke to us.
She did not want to go on camera, but when we told her that police believe that Myers is headed back to Arkansas, where he is currently on parole. She told us that she believes it.
We also spoke to neighbors, who said he was very nice, and had borrowed a ladder from them in the past.
But, we also visited Winona, and spoke to Marlee Harris, who owns One-Stop Liquor, and owns the home that Myers' ex-wife lives in. She said that she knew Myers had a history as a bank robber, but was shocked when we told her that Myers is the suspect in the Tyler robbery. She said that Myers' ex-wife had fallen behind on the rent, and Myers called her recently to work out the problem.
"About two weeks ago, and we were going to work out some receipts and some deals that he was working on the house," said Harris. "When I bought the house, she was a renter there, and she's never been late."
Harris says that she has only known Eddie Ray Myers for about a year, and that his ex-wife has been renting from her for six years, and the last two months are the first time that she has ever been late.
