LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A man and woman have turned themselves in for their alleged roles in a June kidnapping prank.

Tanya Elizabeth Day, 23, of Houston, and William Quay Short, 25, of Lufkin, are charged with interference with public duties, which is a class B misdemeanor.

According to police, a witness reported that she saw Short force Day into the trunk of a vehicle outside Walgreen's on the 100 block of North Timberland Drive. The witness said Short then fled the area at a high rate of speed.

According to the report, officers from Lufkin Police, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office and DPS searched for the vehicle for about an hour before Day returned to Walgreen's to make a purchase.

Police confronted Day, who told them they were just imitating a gag they saw on a television about public pranks. They then talked to Short, who gave the same story.
