TOLEDO, OH (WTOL) - An Old West End girl died Sunday after being crushed in the power gate at her apartment building, located at 1855 Bancroft, very close the Toledo Museum of Art.

Ahjzanae Triplett, 11, got pinned and the gate crushed her torso, killing her, according to police.

Crime expert Richard Murphy says in his 41 years in law enforcement, he has never seen anything remotely like this before.

"Everybody is sick," Murphy said, "because things like this just don't happen."

Murphy, after being briefed by Toledo Police, says Triplett was playing with two other kids. She was climbing on the fence when the gate opened.

"I don't see any crime at all. I can see a big lawsuit coming," Murphy said.

Murphy says TPD has assigned an investigator to this case to determine exactly what caused the gate to open.

Some folks wonder if safety features on the gate malfunctioned and how the gate could have opened without Triplett knowing it.

WTOL tried contacting the apartment's owners at Museum Place LTD, but were unable to get in touch with anyone from management.
