For the past 65 years in Gladewater, the annual PRCA Sanctioned Rodeo has been held in the ancient confines of Round-Up Arena, but that part of history has now faded away.
As the ceremonial ribbon was cut today, this year's event will introduce the brand new 5,000 seat Round-Up Arena. Built totally by corporate and individual donations, and completed by volunteers, the facility is ready for what has become a landmark East Texas tradition. The brand new stadium has a front row seat no matter where you sit.
However, there are some who miss the old stadium. The prestigious event has been voted by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association as one of the top five rodeos, not just in Texas, but in the nation.
With a new building and the 66th rodeo on the way, organizers hope the old saying is true, "The more things change, the more they stay the same."
The 66th Annual Gladewater Round-Up Rodeo runs from June 4th through June 7th.
