Track of dreams

BULLARD, TX (KLTV) -   If you're looking for someone in the Terry family, chances are they're hidden off of County Road 3701 in Bullard.

"We're all here as a family on race night," said Susan Terry.

Welcome to the Cactus Speedway.  A real life track of dreams.

"We could call it Cactus Speedway because we've dug out so many cactus," laughed Terry.

"It's a labor of love seeing it come together and start from scratch," said Tom Terry III.

"My father in law, husband, son and grandson, they've all raced," said Susan Terry.  "This is our first attempt at building and owning a track, this is a dream come true for him."

The Terry's don't have to go far to get there.  Just look out the back window.

"Just go out the back door," said Terry III.  "Can't ask for anything better than that a backyard track."

The Terry's will unveil their tracks latest addition this weekend.  New lights.  Area racing fans can check out go-kart races, motorcycles and mowers.  All the Terry's will be there on the job.

"My mother in law runs Grandma's Wagon Wheel the concession stand. My father in law does the announcing. Everyone is here doing something," said Susan Terry.

"We need family counseling at times, but we do well," said Terry III.  "We work together."

Now they they've built it, The Terry's want everyone else to come.

"It is a track of dreams and it's come true."

Jackson is back for Lufkin.Jackson is back for Lufkin.

Like Longview, Lufkin is always talented. Before the Panthers begin District 12-6A action, they'll play a loaded East Texas schedule featuring the Lobos in week 1, followed by Nacogdoches and John Tyler. Normally a 7 and 4 campaign would be considered a success, but not in Panther nation. In fact, despite making the playoffs every year, Lufkin hasn't advanced past the first round since 2012.

Our Red Zone Rundown continues with the other two Class 6A programs in East Texas. In District 11-6A with John Tyler and Tyler Lee, who we featured Monday night, Longview figures to challenge for the league title in 2017. In fact, the Lobos and Lions shared the district championship a year ago. It's no secret, Longview is used to winning and it does so by running the football and playing sound defense.
