MOUNT VERNON, TX (KLTV) - They had no masks, no real tools, and authorities say the men in recovered surveillance video had no fear, striking an East Texas bank early this morning.
"This is kind of reminiscent of the ATM thefts we had bout two, two and a half years ago that plagued a lot of the Gilmer areas," said Franklin County Sheriff Paul Fletcher. The sheriff arrived at Texas American Bank by 5:30 a.m. to find a drive thru pillar nearly destroyed, with its ATM ripped right out of the ground.
"Three individuals got out, they hooked a chain around the ATM machine and then pulled it from its foundation," said Fletcher.
The video from the scene revealed that there was a black or dark blue Chevrolet Tahoe that pulled up to the machine. Little evidence was left behind, but authorities say the surveillance may hold the answers.
"We were able to develop pictures of 3 of the 4 suspects that were very good." said Fletcher.
"It took 4 men to put that ATM in the back of the vehicle, 2 of them tried, then 3, then the driver got out to help get it in the back."
The FBI, Upshur County and Gilmer police are assisting in the investigation. If you recognized any of the men in the surveillance video contact the Franklin County Sheriff.
