TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler Junior College administrators have confirmed the gas leak caused by construction crews earlier this morning has been safely capped by a Centerpoint Energy response team.
Communications Director Fred Peters says construction projects have resumed in the immediate area and all campus activities are to continue as planned for the rest of the day.
Construction crews cutting through a driveway near the intersection of Palmer and Fifth Street on the corner of the Tyler Junior College campus hit a gas line around 10 a.m. leading to a large gas leak.
A soccer camp taking place near the site of the leak, gymnasium, P.E. building, and the Tyler Museum of Art were evacuated to establish a wide perimeter around the leak, which could be heard spewing gas into the air from several hundred yards away.
No injuries took place as a result of the ruptured gas line.
