Scattered storms this weekend, hot next week

The weekend is shaping up to be warm and humid with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours. Rich tropical moisture is still in place across the area so any storm that does develop today could produce heavy rain however, they will be more scattered today. Because the coverage of heavy rain will be less than we saw earlier this week, the flash flood watches have been canceled. It will be fairly hot today with heat and humidity combining to make it feel as though temperatures are near 100 degrees.

If you have any outdoor plans this weekend it appears Sunday maybe the best day for remaining dry. A ridge of high pressure in the mid levels of the atmosphere will begin to build in suppressing the thunderstorm development Sunday afternoon. It is this high pressure that will make next week feel very hot. High temperatures will at least reach the middle 90s by the end of next week and could approach 100 degree if enough soil moisture is evaporated. With the available humidity the heat index next week could approach 105 degrees in many areas. Get ready for summer heat, it's coming back!
