LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Lufkin man for exposing his two-year-old son to drugs.
According to an arrest affidavit, Nathan Wade Cannon, 25, was stopped on June 20 on Grimes Cemetery Road, as he was coming from a known meth house. The officer found two small bags of meth and marijuana in his front left pocket. Cannon's son was in the car at the time of the stop.
A state agency ordered drug test revealed that on June 28th the boy tested positive for drugs.
Cannon is charged with child endangerment. He was booked into the Angelina County Jail on Wednesday.
Sgt. Allen Hill said this is the second count of the crime that Cannon has been charged with. He was arrested on a possession charge in 2009, when deputies had questioned him about some tips they had received. During the questioning, they found drugs in his home, where his children lived. He was also charged with child endangerment then.
Hill said Cannon was out on bond and was at a court hearing Wednesday. The judge postponed the hearing, then deputies approached Cannon and told him he was under arrest for child endangerment.
Hill said the traffic stop occurred while deputies were investigating a suspicious death on Grimes Cemetery Road. According to a previous report, law enforcement was called to the home where Douglas Hickman, 27, was found dead on the bathroom floor.
Hill said deputies were investigating the case when Cannon drove by. That is when they stopped and questioned him and found the bags of drugs, Hill said.
