GILMER, TEXAS (KLTV) - When the Gilmer Buckeyes finished off a football state championship in December, they did so with heavy hearts.

Long time voice of Buckeye football, Matt Camp, passes away in September, after a long bout with cancer.

Today, those who knew Matt best, honored his memory.

"Matt was a huge baseball fan," said Matt's wife Diedra, "So when we decided to do something in his honor, this just seemed right."

Now, everytime fans venture to see baseball and softball at Gilmer High School, they will see it at Matt Camp Ballpark.

The dedication took place on Sunday, and a brand new archway and brick entrance bearing his name, marks the entrance to the park.

The best part of all, is that immediately after he passed, Matt's 9 year old son, Cade, sat down, and on a piece of paper, drew the blueprints for what the entrace way should look like.

"It is exactly what we wanted it to be," said Cade, "I thought they (the builders) would mess it up, but they didn't, and it is real exciting to see what it looks like."

"I told Cade how amazing it was to his vision and what drew come to life," said Diedra Camp, "That is what my husband was all about, giving kids a vision in life, including his own son."

In addition to the ballpark dedication, a fundraising event was held with former teammates of Matt Camp and alumni of Gilmer participating.

There has been a scholarship fund set up in Matt Camp's name.

Interested parties can make donations to the fund at Gilmer National Bank in Gilmer.

"I really loved wearing the orange when I wore it, but I'm awful glad to wearing purple and gold right now. Kids did a great job of being here all summer long.
