SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - An afternoon drug bust shows criminals aren't taking time off for the holiday. It happened shortly after two p.m. when state troopers pulled over a car at a Valero gas station near the Highway 110 Van-Carroll exit.
When the driver appeared nervous the officer's request to search the vehicle was denied by the driver. A Canton Police Department drug dog was called in who hit on drugs in the black sedan. Upon inspection officers located 2.5 ounces of crystal meth and unidentified pills under the driver's seat.
As soon as the driver was arrested, troopers say he admitted to having a heart condition and complained of chest pain. When his claims were proven true, an ambulance transported the man to a Tyler hospital.
The driver remains in the hospital facing second degree felony drug charges.
