LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Just before 7 p.m. Monday emergency crews were called to the East Texas Regional Airport in Longview.
Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano says that several large planes have been diverted to the East Texas Regional Airport because of hazardous weather conditions in other parts of the country.
The planes that have been force to land at the Longview airport include MD-80s and a 737, planes much larger than what the airport normally sees.
On one of the flights at least five passengers were injured during turbulence. Seven paramedics were on scene to help the injured, although no one is believed to be seriously hurt.
KLTV has a call into American Airlines for more information on the injuries and the reason the Gregg County airport was selected for the diverted flights.
A tower operator at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport tells KLTV 7 that four flights were diverted there, but as of 8:05PM had all already taken off again.
