East Texans participate in amateur radio event

By Bob Hallmark - bio | email

LONGVIEW,TX (KLTV)- Talking around the country, and around the world was the focus of an annual world-wide event today. At exactly 1 p.m. today, hamm radio operators around the world signed on for the annual 24 hour field day. In Longview operators were making contacts with hundreds of hamm users in North America and world-wide. The benefit of the exercise , is that in case of a national or international emergency where communications break down, hamm radio will still be operational, needing only and aerial and a power source. The event continues until 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Last year more than 35 thousand amateur radio operators participated in the field day.
