Laughs, costumes and Shakespeare

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - Lavish costumes, Shakespearian actors and laughs? That is the theme for an annual event that brings a little bit of culture to East Texas.

The 25th annual Kilgore based Texas Shakespeare Festival is in rehearsals for the grand opening performances next week.

A full slate of comedy is on tap, including As You Like It and The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Professional actors round out the casts, in what organizers hope will be a family friendly festival.

"The themes that Shakespeare was working with back then were the same exact themes that we go through in our basic day to day," said actor, Jay Hernandez. "Whether it be family, love, relationships, nothing has changed. What we are about here at TSF is celebrating theater with East Texas."

The Texas Shakespeare Festival begins July 1st and performances run through August 1st. Check with the festival box office for show times.
